Esmeralda Tijhoff to Present on Accessible Intranets at Northern Digital Accessibility Network Meeting

Accessible intranets are still not a given in many organizations, a gap that Esmeralda Tijhoff, Product Owner of the Generic Intranet at DICTU, is determined to close. She argues that accessibility should not be treated as an add-on but must be embedded from the beginning. Code, design, and content all need to follow accessibility standards so that every employee, including those with a disability, can participate fully in digital workplaces.

On October 2, 2025, Tijhoff will share this perspective at the Autumn Meeting of the Northern Digital Accessibility Network (NNDT) in Assen. During her session, she will present how DICTU has integrated accessibility into the Generic Intranet used across the Dutch national government. She will also highlight practical methods that other organizations can adopt to make their intranets more inclusive and effective.

The NNDT meeting will gather professionals who work on digital accessibility in various roles across the Northern Netherlands. Topics under discussion will include removing barriers that affect the more than 4 million people in the Netherlands living with disabilities that impact how they use websites and apps. These disabilities may be visual, auditory, motor, cognitive, or intellectual in nature, and addressing them is key to ensuring equal access to digital tools and services.

As an informal knowledge network, NNDT organizes two meetings each year, offering attendees a platform to exchange experiences and explore practical solutions. The Autumn Meeting will run from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at DICTU in Assen. Participation is free for employees of member organizations, with non-member tickets also available.

More information, including registration details, can be found on the NNDT website.
