Drupalize.me Launches In-Depth Course on the Recipes API
Drupalize.me has released a comprehensive tutorial series on the Drupal Recipes API, authored by long-time Drupal educator Joe Shindelar. Drawing from his work on the Drupal CMS User Guide, Shindelar explores how recipes allow teams to package configuration patterns into reusable sets, streamlining Drupal site setup and reducing duplication.
The Recipes initiative provides a standardised way to bundle configuration—such as content types, Views, and fields—into portable packages. This helps teams apply proven solutions across multiple projects while focusing their effort on site-specific needs. As Shindelar explains, repeated manual setup slows teams down. Recipes offer a structured alternative.
The course includes lessons for both developers and site builders. Topics range from applying out-of-the-box recipes to creating custom ones using the Configuration Actions API. Tutorials cover how to define and reuse configuration actions, organise them into recipes, and extend existing patterns. In Drupal CMS, these are often referred to as “recommended add-ons”—but under the hood, they are built with the Recipes API.
Shindelar positions recipes as a durable method for sharing institutional knowledge and best practices. For teams that repeatedly solve similar problems, formalising those solutions into recipes offers faster delivery and higher quality control. The full course is now available at Drupalize.me, and feedback is encouraged to shape future lessons.
