Nominations Open for the 2026 Aaron Winborn Award in the Drupal Community
The Drupal community is accepting nominations for the 2026 Aaron Winborn Award, an annual honour that recognises members whose steady service and kindness strengthen the community in ways that are not always visible.
The announcement came in a new blog post by Michael Anello on Drupal.org. The award highlights people who welcome newcomers, organise local events, answer questions with patience, advocate for inclusion, or keep important work moving without seeking attention. The focus is on personal character and community care, not technical output.
The award is named for Aaron Winborn, a respected contributor who continued mentoring and supporting others after his ALS diagnosis until his passing in 2015. His example led to the creation of the award, which has been presented each year by the Drupal Community Working Group.
The 2026 recipient will be recognised during DrupalCon North America. The honoree will receive a handcrafted physical award and free registration to the event.
Nominations are open through Friday, January 9, 2026. A committee made up of Community Working Group members and past award recipients will review submissions. Current Conflict Resolution Team members and previous winners are not eligible for nomination.
Past recipients include Cathy Theys, Gábor Hojtsy, Nikki Stevens, Kevin Thull, Leslie Glynn, Baddý Breidert, AmyJune Hineline, Angie Byron, Randy Fay, Mike Anello, and the 2025 honoree, Kristen Pol.
The Drupal Community Working Group is also inviting designers and craftspeople to express interest in helping create future versions of the award.
Questions and nominations can be directed to the Community Working Group through Drupal.org.
