Recipe-Powered Drupal: A Real-World CMS Migration Case at DrupalCon
DrupalCon Vienna 2025 will feature a session by Maksym Yemets and Artem Dmitriiev of 1xINTERNET focused on migrating from traditional installation profiles to a recipe-based approach using Drupal CMS.
The session, titled “Make your own Drupal CMS: from distribution/profile to recipe based installation,” is scheduled for Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 16:15 to 17:00 at the Austria Center Vienna. It will explore how the Drupal 10.3 release and the official launch of Drupal CMS have rendered installation profiles optional, allowing developers to streamline project setups using the Recipes Initiative.
Drawing from their four-month migration effort, the speakers will share how they replaced an eight-year-old distribution containing nearly 100 custom modules with a modular, recipe-driven setup. The talk will highlight real-world challenges and solutions, including collaboration with contrib maintainers and the application of core patches.
Targeted at intermediate learners, the session aims to equip attendees with the knowledge needed to adopt recipes while maintaining and evolving existing Drupal projects. It offers a clear path toward building future-ready CMS setups that are easier to manage and extend.
