Open Source, Open Minds and Open Rates at Mauticon 2025
Mautic World Conference 2025 was a welcome change this autumn conference season. Instead of the usual packed schedule across marketing, data, and development, this was a focused, purposeful community event entirely about helping people get better at the work they already do. This community here isn’t content with being good - they want to be the best!
Every conversation, session, and demo reflected that drive, showcasing a group of people committed to mastering their craft and pushing the boundaries of what marketing automation can achieve for their clients.
Hosted at Sea Containers, London, the week-long conference was kicked off by Gee Ranasinha, CEO of KEXINO. His keynote set the tone brilliantly, seamlessly blending data and technology with the human element, a theme that resonated throughout the entire event.
It’s easy to think about email marketing as if it’s a static craft. A triggering subject line here, a monthly blast. But the truth is that marketing software has evolved into something far more sophisticated. It listens, observes, interprets. It lets marketers track behaviour with a level of clarity we could only dream of a decade ago. It helps us plan, refine, and re-plan our strategies as if we’re in an ongoing dialogue with our audience.
I sometimes find marketers tend to get lost in complexity. The irony is that simplifying a strategy is the hardest part of the job. We have frameworks, funnels, matrices, processes, and journeys that try to impose order on chaos. Some are useful. Some gather dust. But when you strip it all back, what matters is remarkably ordinary. Did we stop and think about the customer’s experience, are they connecting with our brand, are they buying our products and services?
I had the opportunity to give two talks. My session, “Customer-centric Marketing: A Marketer’s Guide to Smarter Engagement”, attempted to address this human part of the equation. I also stepped in for my colleague, CRM Guru, Joe Bushnell to deliver his talk “CRM and Mautic working in partnership”.
