QED42’s SPACE DS Theme Offers SDC-Ready Framework for Upcoming Drupal Canvas

QED42’s SPACE Design System theme, a modern and component-driven Drupal theme, is now spotlighted as a ready-made foundation for the upcoming Drupal Canvas builder, leveraging Single Directory Components (SDC) to simplify visual site building and accelerate frontend development.

Developed by QED42, SPACE DS is part of the broader Space Suite ecosystem and is designed to deliver scalable, accessible, and performant front-end experiences. It is compatible with Drupal 8, 9, 10, and 11, making it a versatile option for modern and legacy projects alike.

The theme aligns closely with Drupal’s transition toward component-based visual editing. Built using atomic design methodology, SPACE DS provides reusable components organized as atoms, molecules, and organisms—ensuring consistency and maintainability across projects.

Available on Drupal Forge, the theme includes a preconfigured header and footer, Tailwind CSS integration, and Figma-based design tokens for unified color, typography, and spacing standards. It also integrates with UI Patterns (8.x-1.10), Layout Builder, Experience Builder, and Twig includes, providing flexible mapping between components and content entities such as blocks, paragraphs, and views.

SPACE DS comes equipped with Storybook integration for visual component documentation and previews, helping developers and designers collaborate effectively. The latest release candidate, 1.0.0-rc1, introduced slot and Storybook fixes for Drupal Canvas, improved desktop and mobile responsiveness, and added meta descriptions to components. The theme is covered under Drupal’s security advisory policy, ensuring reliability for production environments.

Maintained by Kiran Kadam, Hemant Gupta, Vidit Anjaria, and Prashant Chauhan, SPACE DS continues to evolve with community feedback and supports active experimentation with Drupal’s next-generation visual builder.

To explore the theme or test it with DrupalCanvas, visit Drupal Forge or install via Composer:
composer require 'drupal/space_ds:^1.0@RC'
