Stanford Humanities Center Debuts SHC Today on Drupal
Kalamuna collaborated with the Stanford Humanities Center to develop SHC Today on Drupal. The platform unites SHC, Arcade, and the Today Hub subsites into one site, offering curated publications, blogs, videos, podcasts, and interactive research tools. Its goal is to engage scholars, students and the public in real-time humanities research.
A user-centred discovery process guided the redesign, informed by stakeholder interviews and surveys that identified accessibility gaps and usability issues. Kalamuna built context-based Drupal subsites with shared code and a common database, enabling centralised user management, unified search, and reusable components. Hosting on Acquia supports performance and scalability, reflecting Arcade’s commitment to open access.
The project demonstrates how coordinated research, design, and development efforts can meet diverse stakeholder needs. SHC Today features intuitive navigation and a modular design that supports ongoing growth and maintenance. Adding user engagement metrics and site performance data would strengthen the case study by demonstrating its impact and guiding future improvements.
