Open Intranet 1.7.0 Enhances Usability with Modern UI and Smarter Messaging Tools
Open Intranet 1.7.0, released by Droptica, introduces a refreshed administrative experience and expands multi-channel communication capabilities. While the newly added Messenger module—covered in an earlier story—enables sending notifications to users without accounts, this broader update focuses on usability, responsiveness, and backend scalability.
The most visible change is the switch to the Gin admin theme, replacing Claro with a cleaner, more modern interface. Editors and administrators benefit from an improved layout optimised for both desktop and mobile use. Content creation, navigation, and system management tasks are now more intuitive and responsive.
Alongside visual upgrades, version 1.7.0 integrates with SMSAPI to enable reliable international messaging, particularly valuable for reaching non-Drupal users, such as deskless workers. A queue interface has also been added to monitor outbound notifications and ensure delivery success.
Additional improvements include:
- Redesigned kudos display and user profile templates
- Enhanced webform styling for accessibility
- Fixes for mobile menu display and logo overlap
- Compatibility patch for Drupal 11.2.6
With this release, Open Intranet continues to position itself as a flexible, open-source platform for internal communications. The 1.7.0 update builds on recent feature expansions and lays the groundwork for upcoming additions, such as advanced document management in 1.8.x.
