Centarro and Kalamuna Modernize Streaming and Licensing for New Day Films
Centarro’s new case study explores how it partnered with Kalamuna to modernize New Day Films’ digital streaming and licensing platform for educational institutions and cooperative filmmakers.
New Day Films is a long-standing, filmmaker-run cooperative distributing award-winning documentaries to educators, libraries, and community groups. The platform overhaul addressed technical debt by merging two separate Drupal 7 sites into a single architecture, improving maintainability and enabling better cross-selling and content integration.
Centarro implemented custom licensing using the Commerce License module to support institutional access models, such as timed rentals and lifetime campus licenses. The project also introduced authentication logic for IP ranges, email domains, and proxy servers to accommodate universities’ varied user environments.
To support the cooperative model, the system offers dashboards for filmmakers to track revenue, and provides institutional clients with usage reports. Kalamuna led the build for a new streaming platform, while Centarro delivered the Drupal Commerce integration and architecture design.
