DDEV Foundation Establishes Inaugural Board to Advance Governance Goals
The DDEV Foundation has formalised its governance structure by filing amended Articles of Incorporation in Colorado, a move that officially establishes its new Board of Directors. The step signals a commitment to transparent oversight, sustained growth, and community‑driven stewardship of the project.
The newly named board includes prominent names from across the open-source ecosystem: Michael Anello, Jen Lampton, Benni Mack, Andrew Berry, and Randy Fay. Each brings unique strengths, from long-term Drupal and TYPO3 expertise to project governance and developer‑experience advocacy. Mike Anello will serve as the Foundation's Treasurer.
The board members represent a mix of backgrounds and communities. Michael, a co-founder of DrupalEasy, is a seasoned Drupal developer and consultant; Jen is co‑founder of Backdrop CMS and a longtime security‑team contributor. Benni brings TYPO3 core‑development leadership; Andrew, a veteran Drupal contributor and technology lead at Lullabot, has deep familiarity with DDEV’s role in development workflows; Randy is the original maintainer of DDEV, remaining closely connected to its codebase and community since 2016.
The creation of the board was driven by DDEV’s goal for enhanced governance and long-term sustainability. The Foundation plans to hold governance meetings every two months, open to the broader community. Weekly or monthly newsletters will carry meeting announcements and summaries, enabling transparency and community participation.
By formalising governance, DDEV aims to reduce dependence on individual maintainers and distribute responsibility across a broader leadership group. Financial sustainability is emphasised, but the board also intends to oversee project direction, contributor engagement, and structural resilience, ensuring DDEV remains viable as the ecosystem evolves.
