Sachiko Muto to Address Digital Commons at 2025 Brussels Policy Summit
The Digital Commons Policy Summit 2025, organized by the NGI Commons consortium in collaboration with the European Commission, will take place on November 20–21 at DG CNECT in Brussels. The event will bring together policymakers, researchers, and open-source stakeholders to assess the current landscape of digital and internet commons in Europe and to explore strategies for building a competitive and sovereign digital ecosystem.
Sachiko Muto, Chair of OpenForum Europe and Senior Researcher at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, who is also a board member of the Drupal Association, has been confirmed as a featured speaker. Sachiko brings extensive expertise in open policy, standardisation, and digital governance, having previously served as Director for Government Relations and CEO at OpenForum Europe. Her academic background includes degrees in political science from the University of Toronto and the London School of Economics, as well as a doctorate in standardisation policy from TU Delft.
The summit will focus on mapping existing digital commons initiatives, evaluating the impact of NGI (Next Generation Internet) funding, and identifying future development priorities for the European digital commons ecosystem. It aims to address how open technologies, including the open internet stack, can support a more competitive and interoperable European digital infrastructure.
Attendance to the summit is free but requires advance registration. Due to limited capacity at the European Commission venue, in-person participation is subject to seat availability. All sessions will be streamed online to ensure remote access for those unable to attend physically. Further details, including the agenda and registration information, are available on the official event website at https://commons.ngi.eu/event/digital-commons-policy-summit-2025.
