Platform.sh Rebrands as Upsun, Expands Cloud Platform with AI Capabilities
The trusted cloud application platform Platform.sh, used by more than 6,000 enterprises and 16,000 developers, has officially rebranded as Upsun. Announced on September 23, 2025, in Paris and San Francisco, the change marks a strategic shift toward AI-assisted development and enterprise-scale modernization while retaining the company’s foundations of reliability, compliance, and sustainability.
“The transition from Platform.sh to Upsun symbolizes our significant evolution as a company. Our growth over the last decade required a brand that captures our commitment to global reach, exceptional service, and continuous innovation. As enterprises expand the use of AI in software development, Upsun will provide the AI support they need to increase productivity and deployment velocity, and help companies manage risk—all while ensuring application quality from development to production and beyond,”
said Fred Plais, CEO and Co-Founder of Upsun.
For more than a decade, Platform.sh has been recognized for multicloud flexibility across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, and OVHcloud, while maintaining strong ESG commitments. Upsun continues these priorities, including environmentally responsible operations and greener-region incentives for low-carbon deployment, and adds lifecycle tools tailored for AI-augmented workflows.
New capabilities include AI-generated configuration for faster onboarding; an MCP server and API that allow AI agents and LLM-enabled IDEs such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code to interact securely with platform tools; and multi-runtime support across Python, Node.js, Java, .NET, Go, PHP, and more. Teams also gain GitOps workflows, continuous delivery by default, isolated preview environments that mirror production, and integrated observability—reducing toil and speeding incident response.
“The move to Upsun recognises how far we have come. Developers get speed, simplicity, and scalability. Enterprises get standardization, security, and sustainability. This brand evolution sets the stage for everything we are building next,”
said Nigel Kersten, Chief Product Officer at Upsun. His appointment to this role was earlier reported by The Drop Times.
The video announcement begins with Fabien Potencier, recently appointed CTO of Upsun and creator of Symfony, who highlights how the rebrand builds on a decade of technical excellence. He emphasizes a developer-first approach designed for both humans and AI agents, underscoring that Upsun aims to simplify workflows without compromising enterprise reliability. His presence signals continuity from the company’s open-source roots while embracing AI-driven workflows for the future.
With headquarters in Paris and San Francisco, Upsun employs more than 290 staff across 40+ nationalities in a 100% remote, B Corporation™ certified, ESG-led organization. Clients include Adobe, Pinterest, UNICEF, The University of Missouri, and The YMCA, alongside partnerships with leading cloud vendors and open-source providers.
