Drupal and PHP Communities Partnering for Longhorn PHP Conference 2025

Drupal and PHP Communities Partnering for Longhorn PHP Conference 2025

Drupal organizers across Texas have partnered with Longhorn PHP Conference to create opportunities for PHP developers to discover what modern Drupal offers - and for Drupal developers to share expertise with the broader PHP community. This sixth Longhorn PHP Conference will take place October 23-25 in Austin, Texas.

This collaboration makes sense for a few reasons. First, the Drupal community has been working on some interesting stuff that could benefit the broader PHP ecosystem. Second, we've been trying to get more involved with events outside our usual DrupalCon circuit. And honestly, the PHP community in Texas deserves to see what modern Drupal development looks like.

Extended CFP Deadline: August 1st

Good news - the Call for Proposals deadline has been extended to 11:59pm CDT on August 1st. We're looking for people to submit talks that will work for the Drupal community, for the greater PHP community, or both.

Think about submitting:

  • Drupal-specific topics that show off what we're doing
  • Broader PHP subjects where you can share expertise
  • Introduction to Drupal sessions for developers who haven't looked at it recently
  • Half-day tutorials and training sessions - hands-on stuff people can use

Don't just submit one talk. Multiple submissions give you better chances and help us build a program that serves everyone.

The conference provides travel and accommodation packages for accepted speakers, which means we can bring in expertise from across the country. Learn more about the speaker package.

What Drupal Brings to PHP

The Drupal community has been building some genuinely useful stuff that other PHP developers should know about. Take Matt Glaman's work with PHPStan - he created phpstan-drupal that brings static code analysis to Drupal projects, but the patterns and approaches benefit any PHP codebase.

There's also the composer-stager library that Wim Leers and Travis Carden developed for Drupal's automatic updates functionality - it safely stages Composer commands so they can be run on production codebases without breaking things. That's useful for any PHP application that needs safe dependency management.

And the AI Initiative work - provider abstractions, testing frameworks, and integration patterns that aren't just useful for Drupal sites.

We've also been solving complex problems around content management, enterprise architecture, and developer experience that translate well to other PHP frameworks and applications.

Sponsorship and Community Building

We're looking for sponsors who want to reach both the established PHP community and the Texas Drupal ecosystem. Your sponsorship level affects how much Drupal content we can include in the program. Learn about the sponsorship levels and their benefits in the sponsorship prospectus.

The Teams

This partnership brings together:

Longhorn PHP organizers: Ian Littman, Hunter Skrasek, Omni Adams, Jessica Mauerhan, and Daniel Abernathy

Texas Drupal organizers: JD Leonard (jdleonard), Stephen Musgrave (capellic), David Hahn (djhahn), Tearyne Almendariz (ninelivesblackcat), Carlos Ospina (camoa), Jose Colmenares (jjcs227), Brandon Williams (rocketeerbkw), Tyler Ashbaugh (tyler-ashbaugh), Anoop John (anoopjohn), and Ritesh Gurung (leeotzu)

Ian Littman, one of Longhorn PHP's lead organizers, shared:

It's been great seeing the interest that Drupal community organizers have had in bringing an in-person event back to Texas, and we're happy that things have worked ouut such that Longhorn PHP will be that event this year.

We think the community, across frameworks, CMSes, and job descriptions, is stronger when we learn and grow together rather than in silos, and look forward to having folks from the Drupal community on both sides of the speaker podium in October for our sixth year!

Get Involved

Tickets are available now, with prices going up once the schedule is announced.

The session submission deadline is August 1st. If you've got Drupal expertise or PHP knowledge that could benefit both communities, submit a proposal. This partnership only works if people like you participate.

What topics do you think would work well for both communities? Any questions about the collaboration?

Note: The vision of this web portal is to help promote news and stories around the Drupal community and promote and celebrate the people and organizations in the community. We strive to create and distribute our content based on these content policy. If you see any omission/variation on this please reach out to us at #thedroptimes channel on Drupal Slack and we will try to address the issue as best we can.
