Drupal CRM Beta Launches to Replace Node-Based Contact Management

The beta version of Drupal CRM, a native contact relationship management module for Drupal, is now available for download. Developed by Steven Ayers of GovWebworks, the module offers an entity-based alternative to the longstanding practice of modeling contacts as nodes or relying on external CRMs like Salesforce and CiviCRM.

Drupal CRM introduces dedicated contact entities with fieldable sub-entities—such as addresses and emails—and native support for relationship tracking. It is designed to scale within Drupal’s architecture while avoiding the limitations of third-party integrations or custom node-based implementations.

People have been using nodes to model contacts, but that approach quickly breaks down,” says Steven, who began the project while replacing legacy CRM systems in a large enterprise environment. “This module gives Drupal a foundational layer for contact and organization management.

The beta is already in use by initiatives such as CRM Membership and CRM Case, both part of the broader Member Platform effort. Project lead JD Leonard calls Drupal CRM “the best foundation” currently available for representing people and organizations in Drupal.

Steven will present the module at Florida DrupalCamp on 21 February. He also recently discussed its development in Episode #537 of the Talking Drupal podcast.

The module is open for community testing and feedback as it moves toward a stable release. Additional documentation is available on its project landing page.
