Day 13 of Drupal Advent Introduces Member Platform for Community Groups
Member Platform, a Drupal-based project led by JD Leonard, is featured on Day 13 of the Drupal Advent Calendar. The initiative provides a lightweight solution for membership-based organizations looking to streamline event management, member registration, and multilingual communications within a single group.
Leonard presented the project at DrupalCon Atlanta in April 2025, describing it as a “Meetup.com light” experience tailored for communities such as clubs, nonprofits, civic groups, and professional associations. He outlined the minimum viable features for a version 1.0 release, focusing on essential capabilities like joining and managing members, publishing and registering for events, and notifying members of updates. More complex needs such as dues collection, donation tools, and integration with platforms like Mailchimp or Drupal.org were deliberately excluded from the early roadmap.
At the time of the talk, Member Platform was still in its formative stage, but Leonard’s presentation offered a strong conceptual framework and invited broader community engagement. For those interested in contributing or staying updated, discussions continue on Slack and Zoom as development progresses. The day’s Advent door, illustrated with a whimsical image of a mouse holding a cookie, ties playfully into Leonard’s presentation title, “If You Give a Member Platform a Cookie.”
