IEM Launches Modern Open Access Database Platform with Drupal 10
The Institute of Medieval Studies (IEM) at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Nova University of Lisbon, has launched a new digital platform built in Drupal 10 to provide public access to its historical research databases. Developed by JAVALI, the upgraded site replaces an outdated portal with a more stable, accessible, and user-friendly solution. It now offers researchers, students, and the public access to four key databases related to Medieval Lisbon and the Portuguese royal administration.
The project involved a complete migration of existing content, the implementation of a simplified administrative interface, and support for both Portuguese and English through automated translation tools. A modular structure was introduced to allow future expansion, and the platform was designed with responsive architecture and advanced filters to enhance usability and data exploration. The focus was not only on performance but also on creating a digital environment capable of sustaining long-term academic growth.
In their statement, IEM praised the collaboration with JAVALI, highlighting the technical competence, adaptability, and understanding of the academic needs behind the project. The new platform supports IEM's mission of open access to knowledge and strengthens its role in disseminating research to both academic circles and the wider community. The project also reinforces the value of Drupal 10 as a powerful tool for managing complex scholarly data in higher education settings.
