AI Logging, Observability, and API Explorer: Strengthening the Drupal AI Ecosystem
In the second part of its Drupal AI Ecosystem series, OpenSense Labs explores three modules that enable production-grade AI functionality with greater control and transparency.
Building on the foundational setup introduced in Part 1, this follow-up dives into AI Logging, AI Observability, and API Explorer—modules that collectively bring auditability, operational visibility, and testing capabilities to Drupal’s AI integrations. AI Logging records each request and response, tracking metadata such as user ID, model, and output for compliance and debugging. Observability offers token tracking, provider usage monitoring, and deeper insights into performance behaviour across AI operations.
API Explorer provides developers with an interactive interface to experiment with prompt structures, model configurations, and API responses in real time. These features make it possible to prototype AI features safely before deploying them into editorial or production environments. Together, these tools promote reproducibility, governance, and trust, core principles for ethical and scalable AI usage within a content management system like Drupal.
By combining real-time experimentation, detailed logging, and granular monitoring, the trio of modules helps teams transition from ad-hoc AI usage to a disciplined, observable AI stack. This operational maturity is essential as Drupal sites increasingly integrate AI into editorial workflows and user-facing features.
