The August 28 webinar hosted by the Drupal Association showcased how the Drupal AI Strategic Initiative is gaining traction across the community. Speakers Paul Johnson, Christoph Breidert, and Kristen Pol shared insights from a recent global survey and outlined a roadmap grounded in transparency and community-driven experimentation. The initiative, launched as part of the Starshot ecosystem, reflects how Drupal is responding to real-world AI integration already happening across agencies and contributors.
Survey results presented by Paul Johnson revealed that 79.2% of respondents are already using AI in daily workflows, while 61% of organizations are running internal AI experiments. “AI isn’t theoretical anymore,” Johnson noted, stressing that the data confirms a shift from curiosity to practical application. Christoph Breidert emphasized that Drupal’s open and flexible framework makes it a strong fit for AI development, and that the initiative is a response to organic demand: “Drupal has always been at the forefront of innovation.”
Kristen Pol closed the session by mapping the path ahead. She highlighted that visibility, contribution, and good stewardship are essential for sustained progress. “This is only working because people are contributing back,” she said, reinforcing that the initiative is being built *with* the community, not *for* it. The roadmap prioritizes collaborative development and shared learning over siloed innovation.
Community members interested in shaping Drupal’s AI direction are invited to contribute code, share experiments, or join the Slack channel. The full webinar is available on the Drupal Association YouTube Channel.
