Digital Public Goods Alliance Calls for Urgent Support to Sustain Open-Source Infrastructure
The Digital Public Goods Alliance (DPGA) is calling for urgent support to sustain the open-source digital tools that underpin digital transformation across the globe. A public letter released by the organisation highlights a growing concern: without long-term investment and support, critical digital infrastructure used by governments and communities worldwide is at risk.
Digital Public Goods (DPGs) are open-source, inclusive technologies that help deliver essential services in areas like healthcare, education, human rights, and energy access. Maintained by a global network of developers, nonprofits, and public institutions, DPGs play a key role in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
However, recent shifts in international funding have placed new pressure on the organisations that develop and maintain these tools. The DPGA warns that without sustained financial backing, many of these systems could fail, potentially impacting millions who rely on them for vital services.
The Alliance is appealing directly to governments, donors, implementers, and advocates to help secure the long-term viability of these solutions. Their open letter outlines the shared responsibility in maintaining the tools that support public digital infrastructure.
