Acquia Applies Drupal AI to Editorial Workflows for Localization, Tone, and Accessibility

Drupal

Acquia has begun using Drupal AI across its own site to test real-world use cases while enhancing internal workflows. In a recent blog post, the marketing team detailed three live implementations on Acquia.com—content translation, tone adjustment, and accessibility metadata—using the Acquia AI Provider to integrate seamlessly into existing editorial systems.

Multilingual publishing is handled through integration with the Translation Management Tool (TMGMT). Editors can generate translations in Japanese, French, Spanish, and Portuguese with a single click. Each translated node is saved as a Draft, triggering human review by regional teams before publication to ensure quality and accuracy.

A second application enhances the WYSIWYG editor. Editors can use a built-in plugin to generate, summarize, or adjust content tone instantly. Acquia has defined five brand-specific tones tailored to different audiences—such as developers and CMOs—helping teams maintain voice consistency without sacrificing relevance.

The third use case targets accessibility. When images are added to the Drupal Media Library, alt text is generated automatically via AI. This workflow draws on Acquia DAM and is modeled after features from Acquia Source, easing the manual burden on design teams while ensuring compliance with accessibility standards.

We aren't just building AI tools; we are using them.

Greg O'Toole, Web Technologist, Acquia

Greg notes that the initial rollout was fast and stable due to the simplified setup offered by the Acquia AI Provider. He reports positive team feedback and confirms that further Drupal AI implementations are planned for Q1 2026.
