Drupal Turns 25: Highlights from the January 2026 Pune Meetup
In a recap published by QED42, Ruturaj Chaubey reflects on the Drupal Birthday Edition meetup held in Pune on 10 January 2026. Hosted at QED42’s local office, the event marked Drupal’s 25th anniversary with sessions, community reflections, and conversation about its future in a changing digital landscape.
Ruturaj’s session, “Drupal at 25: A Quarter-Century of Innovation and Community,” traced the platform’s evolution from a dorm-room experiment in 2001 to a robust, enterprise-grade content management system. He emphasised the value of steady, community-led innovation over hype cycles and highlighted how Drupal has remained true to its flexible, open-source ethos while maturing into a global digital backbone.
A central part of the meetup was a forward-looking discussion on Drupal’s readiness for artificial intelligence. Participants noted how Drupal’s API-first architecture enables integration with AI tools for content generation, workflow automation, and personalisation. The conversation reflected an optimistic yet grounded approach to AI, framed by concerns for scalability, accessibility, and long-term sustainability.
Informal lunch conversations rounded out the event, allowing attendees to share personal experiences and ideas in smaller groups. These exchanges, Ruturaj observed, underscored the collaborative spirit that has defined Drupal’s growth over 25 years. While the session acknowledged the platform’s past achievements, it also served as a springboard for envisioning its next chapter.
