Cinder Systems Rebuilds OCOL Intranet with Drupal 10 WxT and Azure Cloud
Cinder Systems has released a case study on its redesign of the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages (OCOL) intranet, highlighting a comprehensive rebuild using Drupal 10 WxT hosted on Azure.
The previous Drupal 7-based intranet had become difficult to maintain and was no longer aligned with OCOL’s internal needs. Cinder replaced it with a bilingual, accessible, and scalable platform that supports modern authentication, editorial workflows, and federated content discovery.
The rebuilt system incorporates Microsoft o365 Single Sign-On via Active Directory, taxonomy-based navigation, and faceted Apache Solr search. A custom D3.js organizational chart and a personalized “Employee Corner” enhance internal engagement. Editors benefit from structured revision history, translation workflows, and content favoriting powered by a modernized Simple Favourites module.
Cinder migrated content using its in-house Harvest AI tool, preserving structured and unstructured data from the legacy system. The new intranet runs on Azure App Services with containerized MariaDB and Apache Solr instances, optimized via custom Docker configurations and CI/CD pipelines.
