Brad Czerniak's MidCamp Talk on Drupal Queue API Featured in LostCarPark Advent Series
MidCamp, held in May 2025 by the Chicago Drupal Group, featured a range of engaging sessions, among them a standout presentation from Brad Czerniak titled Queue, our esteemed utility. Known for his creative teaching style, Brad blended humour, participation, and art in a talk centred on the Drupal Queue API and its real-world applications.
Phil Alonso, a senior developer at Washington University in St. Louis and co-organizer of Fox Valley Drupal, shared his reflections on the session as part of the Day 12 entry in the LostCarPark Advent Series. Brad’s talk drew from foundational work by Mike Anello and Philip Norton, but added Czerniak’s signature flair — a blend of call-and-response interaction, self-deprecating humour, and original artwork as session gifts.
Attendees received a small painting created by Brad as part of his slide deck backgrounds. One of these, a tree with blue leaves and a row of carrots, accompanied slide 6. Alongside the visual creativity, Brad shared the source code for his Queue API example, emphasizing practical and reusable development strategies.
The talk built on Brad’s earlier MidCamp presentation, What a component isn’t, which had inspired Phil to experiment with the Frost Design System. As the Solve It Once project name suggests, both developer-educators share a focus on repeatable, maintainable Drupal solutions.
