Drupal WxT 6.1.4 Adds Inline Webform Validation Using WET‑BOEW Standards
Drupal 11 WxT now supports inline form validation for Webforms using WET‑BOEW (Web Experience Toolkit – Boîte à outils de l’expérience Web) standards, significantly reducing the need for custom code and enabling non-technical teams to create accessible, standards-compliant forms independently.
The new feature, introduced in the 6.1.4 release, was first shared by Stephen Mulvihill of Cinder Systems. It allows content editors to enable WET‑BOEW validation through a simple checkbox within Webform settings—no custom JavaScript or Twig modifications required. The enhancement ensures compliance with Government of Canada web standards through the GCWeb design system.
Validation support includes native WET‑BOEW rules via HTML data attributes, covering input types such as phone numbers, dates, and numeric ranges. Importantly, it works seamlessly with conditionally visible or required fields, maintaining proper accessibility and validation behaviour across dynamic form logic.
Originally developed for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), the feature is now part of the upstream Drupal WxT distribution. Departments like Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) benefit automatically, inheriting the improvement with no additional development effort.
Drupal WxT is an open-source distribution led by the Government of Canada. It is designed to support the creation of multilingual, accessible, and standards-compliant websites, and adheres to official policies such as WCAG 2.0, the Content and Information Architecture (C&IA) Specification, and the GCWeb design system. This release empowers content teams to meet those mandates directly, without relying on developers.
Version 6.1.4 is a stable release supported by the Drupal Security Team and backed by an active CI pipeline, making it a trusted option for public-sector deployments prioritising security and maintainability.
