Kalamuna Powers Link21 Site with Inclusive, Scalable Drupal Design
Kalamuna played a central role in launching the official website for Link21, a regional transportation initiative aimed at transforming passenger rail across Northern California. Working with BART, Capitol Corridor, and multiple agency partners, the Drupal-based site was crafted to support accessibility, multilingual access, and public engagement.
Beginning before the project had an official name, Kalamuna partnered with Bay Area Transit Authority and consulting groups like HNTB and Reflex to align internal stakeholders and define a strategy. Through workshops and interviews, they ensured consensus on design, functionality, and inclusivity.
The resulting site features simplified navigation, contrast-compliant design, and human-translated content in Spanish and Mandarin. Built initially in Drupal 8 and later transitioned to Drupal 9, the platform supports mobile-first access and low-bandwidth users.
Post-launch updates include interactive tools such as a travel quiz and dynamic charts, helping the site stay relevant as Link21 progresses toward its 2040 service goal. With over 700K site visits and ongoing development, the platform remains a scalable communication hub for a broad, multilingual audience.
