Centarro Modernizes Worthington Biochemical’s B2B Commerce with Drupal Commerce

Centarro has published a case study detailing its work with Worthington Biochemical, showing how Drupal Commerce was used to modernize a complex B2B eCommerce environment while preserving long-standing business processes.

Worthington Biochemical, a manufacturer of biochemical supplies for research and pharmaceutical sectors, faced challenges with its legacy CMS and custom ERP. The platform was rigid, expensive to update, and failed to meet customer expectations. Centarro delivered a unified solution using Drupal and Drupal Commerce, incorporating flexible content management and modern eCommerce features while aligning with Worthington’s institutional workflows and role-based permissions.

The system models complex distributor relationships through custom entities and enforces order progression based on user roles. Customers can place orders, request quotes, and search for specific product lots through a streamlined interface. The same backend supports phone and web transactions, reducing errors and staff friction.

Drupal’s content architecture allowed Worthington to merge its product catalog with a library of peer-reviewed content, enhancing site usability and reducing technical debt. The new solution is extensible, enabling Worthington’s internal team to expand functionality without heavy external development costs.

Centarro supported ERP synchronization and data migration while ensuring contributions were made back to the open source ecosystem. These include updates to Commerce Core, Commerce Pricelist, and Commerce Shipping. Worthington also sponsored the creation of the Commerce Order Document module for generating and emailing order documents at specific transaction points.
