Symfony AI v0.1.0 Launches with 70+ Packages, Marking Major Milestone in PHP AI Integration

This initial release comprises over 70 packages, spread across multiple components developed under more than 2,000 commits and contributed to by over 80 developers. It provides a foundational framework for integrating artificial intelligence directly into Symfony applications, spanning language model inference, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and multi-agent orchestration.

The core of the offering is the Agent Framework, which is installable via composer require ai, which it integrates with the Symfony stack. This framework builds on three essential components: Platform, Store, and Agent.

The Platform Component allows developers to connect to more than 25 AI model inference platforms, supporting structured output, multimodal data, streaming responses, and event-driven interactions. The Store Component enables indexing and querying from over 20 vector databases, forming the basis for RAG implementations.

Built on top of these, the Agent Component combines inference and vector search with orchestration logic. It supports integrations with pre-built third-party tools and custom PHP code. For chat-focused use cases, the Chat Component introduces persistent context handling tailored for conversational agents.

These components are bundled through the Symfony AI Bundle, which provides tight integration and visibility through a dedicated profiler panel. This makes it possible for developers to maintain fine-grained control over agent behaviour and monitor interactions within the Symfony debugging ecosystem.

Alongside the core release, Symfony AI is progressing with a collaborative effort with The PHP Foundation to develop the official MCP SDK for PHP. A dedicated MCP Bundle now enables Symfony applications to harness the MCP infrastructure, promoting standardisation in agentic PHP development.

Symfony AI Mate, a new development toolkit based on MCP, has also debuted with this release. It aims to provide an extendable server for libraries and application developers, facilitating deep integration between the MCP server and client during agent-based coding workflows.
