Drupal’s Decade of Reinvention from Version 7 to 11

This foundational overhaul was followed by Drupal 9 and 10, which prioritized upgrade path stability, user experience, and backward compatibility. Initiatives like automatic updates, Claro and Olivero themes, and CKEditor 5 made the platform more accessible to both developers and editors. By this stage, Drupal had become more welcoming to newcomers while retaining the flexibility that powers complex digital experiences.

Drupal 11 builds on this momentum with features like Recipes, the Project Browser, and the React-based Experience Builder. These tools streamline the site-building process, lower the barrier for adoption, and support the growing needs of organizations seeking tailored content platforms. The shift in focus from developer-only tools to editor-centric experiences demonstrates how Drupal continues to broaden its reach without compromising on power.
