ImageX Blog Explores Features of Drupal Canvas 1.0, the New Visual Page Builder
In a blog post published on 8 December 2025, Nadiia Nykolaichuk of ImageX shared an in-depth introduction to Drupal Canvas, the newly released visual page builder for Drupal CMS. Highlighted at DrupalCon Vienna during Dries Buytaert’s keynote, Canvas redefines Drupal site building through its use of reusable components, browser-based editing, and AI-powered content generation tools.
The blog clarifies that Canvas is the renamed successor of “Experience Builder,” now offering developers and editors multiple ways to create pages: coding within a modern in-browser editor, drag-and-drop component layout, and even generating pages through AI prompts. It builds on Single Directory Components (SDC) and integrates seamlessly with key Drupal modules such as CKEditor, Metatag, and Webform.
Among the highlights Nykolaichuk emphasizes is the use of Content Templates, which support live previews and structured editing, along with the new Context Control Center, which teaches AI to follow brand guidelines automatically. Canvas also features Autonomous Drupal Agents — background processes that prepare draft updates when content strategy elements are changed.
Advanced users can connect Drupal Canvas to external tools like Figma via the Figma MCP server and use GitHub Copilot for code generation. The in-browser editor supports JSON:API, SWR, and YAML configurations, enabling powerful custom component workflows inside the UI.
The post concludes that Drupal Canvas is not just an interface upgrade but a foundational shift in how websites can be built and maintained — balancing developer power with editorial ease.
