Drupal’s New AI Context Module Brings Context Engineering to the CMS

Salsa Digital has launched the AI Context Module for Drupal, a new open-source tool developed by Chief Technology Officer Kurt Foster to bring context engineering directly into the CMS. The module allows site builders to define and manage the information that large language models use, improving accuracy and consistency across AI-generated outputs.

Foster explained that many AI failures stem not from the models themselves, but from unclear or poorly structured context. The AI Context Module addresses this by introducing a system that structures, tags, and orchestrates the data sent to AI tools. It enables users to create “context entities” such as brand guidelines, tone of voice, or strategic objectives, which can be dynamically injected into AI prompts.

This approach allows teams to control the context behind AI agents, ensuring they operate with relevant, structured information. For example, a content editor agent can automatically apply a brand’s style guide or organizational goals when generating new material. When updates are made to these context entities, Drupal can automatically align related AI outputs without further manual intervention.

Foster noted that the module empowers non-developers to manage AI configuration through Drupal’s familiar interface, moving control of AI behavior into the hands of content teams. It also reduces hallucinations and improves explainability by introducing a structured foundation for how AI interacts with data. This makes the tool particularly valuable in regulated sectors such as government, healthcare, and education, where accuracy and accountability are critical.

The AI Context Module is designed to work alongside Drupal’s Model Context Protocol, forming part of an emerging ecosystem for safe and orchestrated AI systems within open-source content management. By extending Drupal’s heritage of structured content into structured context, the module establishes a new layer of control over AI-driven operations.

The AI Context Module is available now on Drupal.org. A demonstration video is available on YouTube. Read the full article on Salsa Digital.
