Jay Callicott Launches Drupal Cloud Prototype for Headless Drupal Sites

Jay Callicott has introduced a new prototype called Drupal Cloud, a headless-first platform designed to simplify content management while preserving Drupal’s flexibility. Modeled after services like Contentful, the platform allows users to quickly create Drupal-based “spaces,” which are lightweight, multisite-style instances that deliver content through APIs such as JSON:API and GraphQL.

The project is aimed at developers and site owners who want a reliable, low-maintenance solution for powering decoupled applications. Each space comes pre-configured with commonly used modules like Paragraphs, making structured content modeling straightforward. To maintain performance and ease of use, the platform restricts the use of custom modules.

Drupal Cloud is built on open-source principles. It avoids vendor lock-in and supports migration to full-service hosting platforms such as Acquia, Pantheon, or DigitalOcean. Users can manage all their spaces from a centralized dashboard, whether they are hosted on Drupal Cloud or elsewhere.

Jay also highlights support for lightweight app integrations. These allow users to add features without making the platform overly complex. Drupal Cloud is designed for those who want the simplicity of managed content services with the long-term flexibility of the Drupal ecosystem.

Jay is inviting feedback from the Drupal community and considering whether the project is ready for the next stage, including possible funding. For more information and to view the demo, on his LinkedIn post.
