Drupal CMS 1.0 vs. WordPress 6.7: Performance Comparison and Insights
Nathaniel Catchpole, in an article published by Tag1 Consulting, compares the performance of Drupal CMS 1.0 and WordPress 6.7.1 using reproducible tests. Both platforms achieved high scores in Lighthouse performance tests, with Drupal showing slightly better accessibility and SEO results. Drupal outperformed WordPress in backend performance due to its built-in caching mechanisms, executing fewer function calls and database queries, resulting in faster response times and lower memory usage. Drupal also offers better image optimization by default, serving smaller, responsive WebP images, whereas WordPress requires additional plugins for similar functionality. The report highlights Drupal’s efficient caching strategy as a key factor in its superior performance. Google Developer Relations Engineer and WordPress core committer Adam Silverstein reviewed the findings.
