Event Organizers Working Group Publishes 2024 Milestones and Updates
The Event Organizers Working Group (EOWG) has published its 2024 year-in-review, highlighting milestones and achievements over the past year. Marking its fifth anniversary, the group celebrated five years of supporting community-led Drupal events and bid farewell to its last two founding members, Avi Schwab and Leslie Glynn.
The report outlines key initiatives, including enhancements to the Drupal Community Events page, which has listed over 1,100 events across 30+ countries since its launch in 2020. Nearly 300 events were posted in 2024, with a notable rise in local meetups. Updates to the page’s design, finalized at DrupalCon Portland 2024, improved usability and filtering options.
The reusable Drupal Events Platform also saw progress, with two releases in 2024, including support for Drupal 11. Several major events adopted the platform, bolstered by improved documentation and community presentations.
The Event Organizers Working Group (EOWG) continued to strengthen connections among event organizers in 2024 through various initiatives. Monthly open meetings on Slack, held on the second Tuesday of each month at 16:00 UTC / 12:00 PM ET, provided a consistent platform for organizers to share insights and updates. The group also encouraged participation in the #event-organizers channel on Drupal Slack, subscription to their email newsletter, and collaboration through the EOWG issue queue. These efforts have created a robust network, enabling organizers to exchange ideas and resources to enhance Drupal events globally.
With new leadership stepping in, the group remains committed to empowering Drupal’s global event community.
